551508 is an ignition switch - starter assembly for 2.25L and 2.5L petrol engines fitted to Land Rover Series and Defender models. Installed in the steering column switch cluster on vehicles without a steering column lock, the switch provides the key-operated selector and the starter engagement contact; it links the ignition key positions to the starter and ignition circuits, supplying power to the starter solenoid in the start position while maintaining the run and accessory circuits for normal operation. Common fitment includes older Series vehicles where negative-earth electrical systems may apply, and Defender models from the early 1980s through 2006. Verify the vehicle wiring polarity and earth configuration before fitting.
