571043 is a reverse selector fork for the LT85 4-speed V8 manual transmission. Fitted to the selector assembly, it transfers lateral movement from the selector rail to the transmission selector sleeve to move the reverse gear into engagement and it locates and guides the selector sleeve relative to the layshaft and gear cluster. Wear or distortion of the fork can allow excessive play in the selector sleeve, producing difficulty selecting reverse or gear noise during engagement; replacement restores the correct mechanical interface on Series vehicles and early Defender V8 models.
