8510048 is a thermostat housing fitted to the engine cooling system on 2.4L 4-cylinder VM turbo diesel Range Rover Classic models up to chassis HA610293. The housing locates and contains the engine thermostat, provides the mechanical interface between the thermostat, the water manifold and the cooling hoses, and mates to the water manifold with a gasket or seal to maintain system pressure. Corrosion, cracking or seal failure will cause coolant loss and altered thermostat operation, so replace the housing or seal when damaged and inspect the thermostat and seal whenever the cooling system is drained or during routine maintenance.
