AAP817 is a heater matrix for non A/C Defender models with downward facing inlet and outlet pipes. Fitted into the vehicle heater box, it transfers heat from engine coolant into the cabin ventilation air stream. This unit is used on non air-conditioned Defenders up to VIN WA159806 and must match the heater box pipe orientation - the alternative matrix with horizontal pipes carries a different part number and will not fit. Replace if internal corrosion or blockage reduces coolant flow or if pipe orientation differs from the heater box connections.
