ALR5885 is a Bonnet Locking Gas Strut. Fitted to Range Rover P38 bonnets without an insulation pad, this gas-filled strut forms part of the bonnet locking and release mechanism. It cushions bonnet movement during opening and closing to reduce shock, provides lift assist and holds the bonnet in the raised position for access, and its locking feature controls the transition between closed and released positions. The strut interfaces with the bonnet latch, hinge and stay points, so correct orientation and secure attachment are required for normal operation. Replace the strut if the piston shows signs of leaking, if the damping effect has weakened, or if the locking engagement no longer holds the bonnet securely.
