AMR4956 is a console immobilisation wiring harness. Fitted behind the centre dash between the radio and heater on Discovery 1 vehicles with the 300Tdi engine, it provides the low-voltage connections used by the vehicle immobilisation, anti-theft alarm and central locking systems. Often called the "spider unit", the harness routes signalling and power between the immobiliser, alarm and central locking modules and the switches, sensors and ignition; fatigue or corrosion in the small multi-pin connectors can cause intermittent starting or alarm faults. Replacing the harness restores reliable low-voltage connections where wiring or connectors are degraded.
