ERR1181 is a crankshaft fitted in the engine block of 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines up to and including the 200Tdi. It converts the pistons' reciprocating motion into rotational drive transmitted to the flywheel and gearbox, provides main and big-end journals for the connecting-rod and main bearings, and carries counterweights to balance piston and con-rod movement; it also provides the crank pulley and flywheel mounting faces used to drive ancillaries and the transmission. The crankshaft must match the block's bearing dimensions and timing/drive arrangements to achieve correct engine timing and mechanical mating with the clutch or torque converter.
