Land Rover Part Number: ERR1230 - Exhaust Valve
ERR1230 is an exhaust valve fitted in the cylinder head to open and close the exhaust port during the engine cycle. Fitted to Series 3 2.25 diesel and Defender 2.5L naturally aspirated diesel engines, the valve extracts combustion gases from the cylinder and seals the combustion chamber when closed; it works with the camshaft and valve spring to time exhaust flow and withstand high temperature and pressure each cycle. A worn or damaged exhaust valve will affect combustion sealing and can cause increased smoke, reduced power and poor running. Valves are inspected during service or cylinder head overhaul for seating, stem wear and head damage and are replaced where dimensions are out of specification.
