Land Rover Part Number: ERR593 - Connecting Rod Assembly
ERR593 is a connecting rod assembly. Fitted to the engine bottom end, this assembly transfers piston motion and combustion forces to the crankshaft, linking each piston to the crankshaft and converting the piston's reciprocating movement into rotational movement. On the 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel Defender engine the connecting rod carries both compressive and tensile loads during the combustion cycle, supports the bearing shells that run on the crankshaft journal at the big end, and connects to the piston at the small end via the wrist pin. The assembly is supplied as the rod with associated fitted components for the piston, connecting rod and bearings group and is replaced during engine overhaul when wear or damage is present to restore correct running clearances and oil film on the crank journals.
