ERR6439 is an auxiliary drive belt tensioner for Rover V8 engines. Fitted to the front accessory drive on Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38 models, it applies spring-loaded tension to the auxiliary drive belt to maintain correct belt alignment and to compensate for belt wear and slight length changes. Correct tension helps prevent belt slip under load and maintains drive to the alternator, power steering pump and the air-conditioning compressor where fitted.
