ERR6949 is an idler assembly with bracket that positions the idler pulley on the engine accessory drive of 2.5L Td5 diesel engines. The assembly comprises an idler pulley mounted to a dedicated bracket which fastens to the engine and provides the correct pulley offset and routing for the auxiliary drive belt. Correct pulley alignment preserves belt tracking and the contact angle with accessory pulleys such as the alternator, power steering pump and air-conditioning compressor where fitted. Worn or seized idler bearings, or a damaged bracket, will cause belt noise, accelerated belt wear or loss of accessory drive function; replacing the assembly restores correct belt geometry and reduces the risk of belt slippage or premature failure. Fitment applies to Td5-equipped Defender and Discovery 2 models as listed below.
