Land Rover Part Number: ERR6951 - Timing Belt Tensioner - Td5
ERR6951 is a timing belt tensioner for Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel engines. Fitted to the drive belt system, the unit applies controlled tension to the alternator/auxiliary belt layout used on these engines, using a spring-loaded or hydraulic mechanism to maintain correct routing and to compensate for belt stretch and wear. A worn or faulty tensioner - for example with worn bearings, damaged pivots or weakened springs - will allow excessive belt movement and commonly causes belt noise, premature belt wear or intermittent accessory drive faults. When replacing drive belts or diagnosing belt noise on Td5 Defender or Discovery 2 models, inspect the tensioner for free play, smooth rotation and correct return force and replace the unit if any defect is found.
Use the compatibility data below to confirm fitment against your V.I.N.
Compatibility

- Discovery 2 (1998-2004) - Td5
Frequently Asked Questions
The ERR6951 tensioner keeps the Td5 accessory belt correctly tensioned so alternator and auxiliary pulleys run at the proper speed, compensating for normal belt stretch. Common failure modes are worn bearings, damaged pivots or weakened springs which lead to belt noise, premature wear or intermittent accessory drive faults; inspect for free play and smooth rotation and replace if faulty.
