ERR850 is an oil pump drive shaft that transmits rotational drive from the engine to the oil pump on 2.25L and 2.5L petrol and diesel engines, including 200Tdi variants. Fitted within the oil pump assembly and located in the pump housing, the shaft engages the drive gear to allow the pump to circulate oil under pressure through bearings and the engine's galleries. Wear, scoring or distortion of the shaft will reduce pump efficiency and can cause low oil pressure or abnormal engine wear, so the shaft is normally inspected whenever the oil pump or front cover is removed; correct alignment at installation is required to maintain internal clearances and avoid noise or premature wear.
