Land Rover Part Number: ETC8670S - Piston Assembly - Standard - 2.5 Turbo Diesel
ETC8670S is a standard-bore piston assembly for the 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine. Fitted to Defender 90/110 2.5TD engines, the assembly contains the piston, piston rings and piston pin for standard bore applications and is supplied for correct fitment to the standard cylinder size. The piston converts combustion pressure into reciprocating force transmitted to the connecting rod via the piston pin; piston rings seal the combustion chamber, control the oil film on the cylinder wall and maintain compression. Correct ring seating, an undamaged piston skirt and the correct piston pin sizing are required to limit blow-by and control oil consumption during engine operation.
Please note: This piston is NOT SUITABLE for 200Tdi or 300Tdi models.

Frequently Asked Questions
The ETC8670S piston assembly provides the piston, piston rings and piston pin for standard-bore 2.5 Turbo Diesel engines, converting combustion pressure into the reciprocating force sent to the connecting rod. The rings seal the combustion chamber, help control oil on the cylinder wall and maintain compression; common reasons for replacement include scoring, excessive wear, ring failure or damage from detonation or foreign debris.

If you are unsure of compatibility with your vehicle, you can also confirm by checking against your V.I.N. Simply reach out to us with your V.I.N and desired part number via our Contact page or use our Finding Part Numbers page.
Replace the piston assembly if inspection reveals scoring, excessive wear, failed rings, damage from detonation or foreign debris, or when loss of compression and increased oil consumption indicate internal wear. Replacement is also standard practice during an engine rebuild; always match the piston to the correct bore specification when refitting and consult a professional if unsure.
