FRC2470 is a layshaft ball bearing fitted inside the manual gearbox on V8 Defender models. It supports the layshaft, taking radial and axial loads from the shaft and the gears mounted to it so the layshaft can rotate smoothly and remain correctly aligned; worn or damaged bearings can allow excessive play, produce noise, accelerate gear wear or cause loss of engagement, and replacement restores correct shaft support and running geometry within the gearbox assembly.
