FTC4588 is a selector shaft for the R380 5-speed manual transmission. Fitted across the selector drum and fork assemblies in Defender R380 gearboxes, the shaft provides the mechanical interface that translates selector movement into lateral movement of the selector forks so the appropriate gear dogs can be engaged. The shaft supports the selector forks and must maintain correct positioning and surface hardness to avoid excessive wear under shifting loads; it works together with a retaining/locking pin to hold assemblies in alignment. This part is used in Defender applications fitted with the R380 5-speed manual transmission and is required when refurbishing or replacing selector components during gearbox repair.
