FTC5046 is a primary shaft pinion for manual transmissions. Fitted within the R380 five-speed manual gearbox, this pinion locates the input and mainshaft gears and transmits torque through the transmission. Its splined sections receive input from the clutch and transfer rotational force to the mainshaft gear sets, while bearing seats and journal surfaces support axial and radial loads. Accurate alignment with the countershaft and synchro assemblies is required for smooth gear engagement; wear or damage to splines or journals, or incorrect mounting, can cause gear selection problems, noise or accelerated wear of adjacent gearbox bearings and gears.
