FTC5399 is a differential case fitted to the front axle of Land Rover Defender models. The case houses the crownwheel, pinion and internal differential gears and provides machined bearing seats and mounting points for the crownwheel and pinion, bearing carriers and axle shafts. It forms the sealed chamber that retains lubricating gear oil, and its correct assembly controls gear alignment and backlash while providing the structural interface between the differential gearset and the axle housing; when fitted in Defender front axles it accepts two-pinion crownwheel and pinion configurations for workshop replacement or rebuild of the front differential assembly.
