LHN000040 is a timing chain that drives the camshafts from the crankshaft inside the lower timing gear of the M62 B44 4.4 V8 petrol engine. It maintains mechanical synchronisation between the crankshaft and camshafts so the valves open and close at the correct time for combustion, engine smoothness and stable idle. Over time the chain, sprockets and guides can wear, producing noise, increased chain slack and variation in valve timing; when replacing the chain, inspect sprockets and guides for wear and fit a new timing chain tensioner to reduce the risk of premature slack or failure.
