LR003547 is a Timing Chain Cassette fitted to the front timing gear of the Cologne 4.0 V6 petrol engine. The cassette locates the timing chains, guide rails and tensioners which drive the camshafts and provides the mounting for the hydraulic or mechanical tensioners that keep chain slack within specified limits. Correct alignment of the cassette sets camshaft phasing relative to the crankshaft; worn guides or tensioners can allow increased chain movement, producing noise and altering valve timing. The cassette is supplied as a single replaceable assembly where the timing gear layout locates cam drive components at the front of the engine, as fitted to Discovery 4 4.0 V6 models.
