What does LR015349 do?

The LR015349 heater core is a compact heat exchanger located within the vehicle's front HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) assembly. Hot engine coolant passes through the core's internal tubes while cabin air is drawn across the external fins; heat moves from the coolant to the air stream so warm air is delivered to the passenger compartment. Common failure modes include coolant leakage from the core, reduced cabin heat output and a damp or sweet smell inside the vehicle caused by coolant entering the ventilation ducting. Replacement normally requires access to the dashboard HVAC casing because the core sits inside the heater box, and associated coolant hoses will need to be disconnected and refitted. Carrying out a coolant system flush and refill after replacement prevents airlocks and removes contamination that can shorten the life of a new core.
