LR104311 is a steering wheel airbag. Fitted into the steering wheel, the module deploys in a qualifying frontal impact to restrain the driver and reduce forward movement.
The LR104311 module contains an inflator, a folded airbag cushion and the internal firing element that interfaces with the vehicle's supplementary restraint system. On detection of a qualifying frontal collision the module receives an electrical trigger from the vehicle crash sensors and initiates rapid inflation of the cushion to create a controlled barrier between the driver and steering column. The assembly is designed to work with the seatbelt restraint system and must be mechanically secured to the steering wheel hub and electrically connected via the clock spring/contact assembly in the steering column.
