MHK501040 is a Mass Air Flow Sensor fitted to the engine air intake on 2.2 CRDI and 2.4 Puma diesel engines. It measures the mass of air entering the engine and converts that measurement into an electrical signal for the engine control unit so fuel injection can be calculated. Located in the air cleaner / engine air intake assembly on Freelander 2 and Defender models, the sensor provides real-time airflow data used to set injection duration and to manage combustion and emissions; a faulty signal can lead to rough running, increased fuel consumption or elevated exhaust emissions.
