NTC5579 is a Rear Tailpipe and Silencer. Fitted to the exhaust system of V8 3.5 EFI petrol models with a catalytic converter, the assembly connects the rear silencer to the external tailpipe and forms the final section of the exhaust path. The rear silencer reduces exhaust noise and, together with the tailpipe, routes combustion gases away from the vehicle body to the rear outlet. This assembly comprises the final section of pipework and the rear muffler box; replacement is required when the silencer is corroded, damaged or causes excessive noise. When fitting, check hangers and connection faces for correct engagement and condition to prevent exhaust leaks and to maintain the designed backpressure for the engine and catalytic converter.
