NTC8478 is a Lower Steering Column Shaft that transmits driver steering input from the in-cabin steering column to the steering gearbox. Fitted with universal joints, the shaft accepts the off-angle connection between the column and the gearbox, allowing the column to be mounted at a different angle while still transmitting torque smoothly. The universal joints reduce binding during suspension travel and when the steering column is tilted; the joints and splines are wear items and, when worn or damaged, replacement restores correct mechanical linkage geometry and reliable rotational drive.
