QAF500160 is a power steering box assembly for fixed-ratio hydraulic steering systems fitted to left-hand drive Defender models with 2.4 Puma Diesel engines. The unit mounts to the chassis via a four-bolt flange and converts steering column rotation into lateral movement of the steering linkage while an internal hydraulic piston provides assistance to reduce steering effort. Internally the assembly includes the input shaft and sector/roller or rack interface, bearings and sealing elements; wear or leakage of these components can produce play, uneven steering feel or fluid loss. Replacement of the complete assembly restores the intended steering geometry and hydraulic behaviour where internal wear or leakage has affected performance.
