RTC3429 is a wheel bearing for front and rear hubs, fitted to front and rear wheel hubs on selected Series 3, Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic vehicles. The RTC3429 locates the wheel hub on the stub axle and carries both radial and axial loads generated while driving, allowing the hub to rotate with low friction and helping to maintain wheel alignment. It must resist forces from braking, cornering and vertical movement, reduce play in the hub, limit noise and vibration and contribute to predictable steering feel. The bearing is pressed into the hub assembly and retained by application-specific hub components; replacement requires removal of the hub and any retaining fasteners or circlips. For front hubs fitted with anti-lock braking sensors, inspect the sensor and tone ring for damage when replacing the bearing and follow vehicle-specific service procedures to avoid damage to the bearing or hub components.
