RTC4399 is a Left-Hand Sector Shaft Assembly. Fitted in the steering box sector for left-hand assemblies on models with power steering, the shaft converts rotary input from the steering column into lateral movement at the sector gear inside the steering box and transmits torque to the drag link or trackrod end on vehicles equipped with power steering. Located in the lower steering column/steering box assembly, it meshes with the sector teeth; excessive wear, scoring or play on the shaft or its bearings results in increased steering free play, uneven response and potential noise from the steering box. Replacing the shaft restores correct engagement and geometry within the sector assembly. Installation requires correct alignment of the sector and associated bearings or bushings and adherence to vehicle-specific clearances and torque values.
