RTC6564 is a valve tappet assembly used on 2.5L 200Tdi and 300Tdi engines. Fitted into the cylinder head valvetrain, it provides the mechanical interface between the camshaft and the inlet and exhaust valves. The assembly comprises the tappet sleeve and associated slide, guide, bolt and washer which locate and guide the tappet within the cylinder head to maintain accurate valve lift and timing geometry. Where wear or damage to the sleeve or guide develops, valve clearance and timing can be affected, increasing noise and accelerating component wear; replacement of the complete tappet assembly addresses worn interfaces rather than individual clearance adjustments, returning the mechanical interface to the intended specification.
