Land Rover Part Number: SMC500240 - Left-Hand Rear Brake Caliper
SMC500240 is a left-hand rear brake caliper fitted to the rear left wheel. The caliper houses a hydraulic piston, pad carriers and guide hardware; when hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder reaches the caliper the piston moves to press the pads onto the rear left brake disc, creating braking force at that wheel. The caliper mounts to the rear axle hub and locates the pads to maintain consistent pad-to-disc contact under normal use. This specific caliper was fitted to 90 inch wheelbase Defender models from late 2006 through to 2016 and superseded earlier rear calipers used on models from the early 1990s, including Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic; inspect mounting bolts and pad fitment when replacing the caliper to ensure the correct bolt type and pad set are used.
Please note: Earlier calipers RTC5889 and RTC5890 were used with hex-head caliper mounting bolts (571910). Later vehicles fitted with calipers SMC500110 and SMC500240 use multi-star headed caliper mounting bolts (FTC3375).
