STC2079 is a rear crankshaft bearing used on selected turbo diesel engines. Fitted at the flywheel and clutch area, it supports the rear end of the crankshaft, provides the running surface for the crankshaft rear journal and positions the crankshaft axially at the flywheel housing. The bearing carries radial loads from the crankshaft and flywheel assembly, reduces friction between the rotating crankshaft and the engine block or rear bearing cap, and interfaces with the rear main seal and the clutch/flywheel mounting area; correct seating and clearance are critical for oil control and crankshaft alignment. If wear or scoring is present on the bearing surface, replacement prevents accelerated damage to the crankshaft journal and surrounding components.
