STC786 is a steering damper fitted to the steering system on Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. This hydraulic unit sits in the steering linkage and uses a piston and damping fluid to absorb sudden movement, limit oscillation and reduce steering kickback. The damper normally mounts between the steering track rod or steering box and the chassis or crossmember and is supplied as a complete assembly including the mounting rubber bushes; worn seals or bushes will reduce damping effectiveness and allow increased feedback through the steering.
